“My internship with PBS went extremely well. I don’t remember if I ever told you, but my writing portfolio of MediaGlobal articles was a significant reason that I was hired in the first place. My summer months at the UN are helping me shape my career path. My hope is to combine my production/media background with my interests in social justice/human rights issues. This mindset has helped me land several freelance writing assignments. At the moment, I’m in the midst of interviewing with a few different non-profit organizations in New York. All of these jobs require candidates to possess strong writing skills. I am grateful that my experience with MediaGlobal has helped me develop a stronger and clearer writing voice. Thank you for creating MediaGlobal and giving young writers a chance to understand their writing voice.”

“My time at MediaGlobal has been a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. I have had amazing access to press events and other insider’s events at the United Nations that I would never have otherwise been able to witness. Writing about the UN from inside the organization is a very unique opportunity that I would highly recommend to anyone who is interested in global issues or the ever-important issues facing the world’s least developed countries. I have had fascinating conversations with many sources and really seen the wide spectrum of challenges that developing countries face. In addition, working with MediaGlobal has given me the opportunity to collaborate with some fantastic and vibrant young writers as well as talented and passionate editors who have taught me a ton about journalism. I have probably never learned so much from a single internship or job as I did at MediaGlobal.”

“My time with MediaGlobal has given me an invaluable education in reporting on international development issues. As a journalist at the United Nations I have learned to structure articles, conduct interviews and track down important information. Perhaps above all, by covering the most pressing issues facing the world’s least developed countries, I have become a more educated global citizen, aware of the international scope and the local impact of issues such as climate change and entrenched global economic divides. MediaGlobal’s internships are ideal for committed young writers eager to learn on their own in a fast-paced environment.”

“From my first day at MediaGlobal, I never felt like an intern; I was always nothing less than a full-fledged member of the United Nations Press Corp, and treated as an integral part of the MediaGlobal team – an experience I don’t feel you could replicate anywhere else when starting out in the field of journalism or development. While having that kind of responsibility was daunting at first, I learned more than I imagined possible as a result. I relished having the freedom to choose my own story ideas and pursue interviews and research independently, all along knowing fully well that the MediaGlobal team would always be there to back me up if I ever needed assistance or support. The United Nations is a crossroads for important happenings, and since MediaGlobal is based in the UN Secretariat, it allowed me to learn about development from the very people who were making it happen. By passing on this knowledge that I gained, I felt as though I was truly having an impact by helping to educate both policy makers and the public through my writings. The MediaGlobal internship experience is a unique one, and in my opinion there is simply no better way to learn about the United Nations, development, and the ins and outs of what it like to be a journalist.”

“While I worked as a Development Correspondent for MediaGlobal, I gained invaluable insight into how the United Nations functions as a platform for dialogue among interested stakeholders. With new faces and new ideas to meet everyday, working at MediaGlobal proved a rewarding challenge. In particular, I was able to write features, such as one on the first deep-sea mining project in Papua New Guinea, that I would have never been able to write. I had access to the right people and a weekly deadline which allowed for in-depth coverage on topics that mattered to me most. Indeed, working at MediaGlobal opened up a door to my true passions—international development issues and climate change—and gave me the relevant experience I needed to work full-time for a foreign news agency’s North American bureau.”

“While interning at MediaGlobal, I have been fortunate enough to experience the many facets of the organization that is the United Nations. There is a window here that sheds new light on global matters that I have never experienced before. Attending press briefings, conferences, and meetings on various critical development issues and then writing about them has exposed me to a new type of journalism. By covering themes that are not generally discussed in the traditional media, there is an opportunity to provide the public with a new and important angle on world affairs. Furthermore, being able to choose the topics to write about has made me more inspired to be a journalist in this arena. The ability to interact with other journalists and staff at the UN, as well as with your fellow interns, makes the internship all the more worthwhile. This internship has combined my interest in journalism and facilitated my wish to focus on broader global issues that instill a sense of moral justice.”

“Working for MediaGlobal is more than a job, or an internship. It is a lifestyle. It is a rare opportunity to change for the better. I worked with the Executive Director Nosh Nalavala at MediaGlobal for a year. Over the period of my internship, I garnered a strong ability to learn the logistics of instant journalism — reacting quickly and writing about unfolding events. It was a fine experience to work alongside the United Nations press corps. Whether it was a head-of-state, a film actor promoting an issue, or a lower level official, MediaGlobal covered the story from an innovative aspect. No project was too great or small for us to report.
MediaGlobal also aided in shaping my future aspirations. As I was finishing my undergraduate work at Seton Hall University, I made the decision that journalism was the track upon which I would embark. I decided to pursue a Masters degree in East Asian Studies at Columbia University. My ultimate goal is to become a correspondent in the print media specializing on Chinese affairs. In sum, working at MediaGlobal helped shape the foundation of my professional life. MediaGlobal sets a high bar of professionalism and draws a number of fine journalists to work at the United Nations.”

“Working for six months as a correspondent at the UN Secretariat was the most fulfilling educational and professional experience of my life. I met hundreds of fascinating individuals in both the private and public sectors, ranging from Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman to former Prime Minister Wim Kok of the Netherlands. I worked alongside well-established journalists who understood the tricks-of-the-trade and who were always willing to share their knowledge.
I will take the writing and research skills I learned at MediaGlobal with me as I look towards law school and beyond. I will undoubtedly pick up a pen and pursue a writing career again someday, and it is because working for MediaGlobal allowed me to realize and embrace my true passion for writing. I will forever be grateful to Nosh Nalavala for giving me the opportunity to write for MediaGlobal and be part of his young writers crew. The experience was life changing.”
