Yiping Zhou, Director of UNDP’s Special Unit for South-South Cooperation talks with MediaGlobal DWP Correspondents
MediaGlobal offers a full-time six-month writing program year-around for young journalists interested in reporting on global development issues. The program is designed to sharpen their writing skills and demonstrate the process of reporting on the developing world, while providing first-hand experience within the United Nations Secretariat in New York.
While participating in the DWP, young and upcoming journalists are presented with a schedule of activities and training courses, designed to provide a focus on reporting development news professionally and in keeping with the standards of the United Nations. Development writers will participate in several writing seminars and trainings, as well as receive one-on-one mentoring by one of the staff journalists at MediaGlobal.
Development writers will also receive United Nations press credentials to attend meetings and press conferences, conduct interview-based articles for the weekly newsletter, as well as cover conferences and meetings at the General Assembly. As a result, MediaGlobal’s Development writers are able to view ongoing events in developing countries and emerging democracies with a deeper sense of understanding and the invaluable ability to deal with complex issues and hard-hitting news.
