The UNCA awards are given annually to honor the best media coverage of the United Nations, and are open to worldwide media. Previous winners of the award include the Associated Press and The Economist.
“It is with real pleasure that I learned that MediaGlobal News has been awarded the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation/UNCA Global Prize Silver Medal. This prize is very well deserved. It’s recognition of your personal dedication to the cause of the most vulnerable countries in the face of emerging challenges like climate change. Please accept our heartfelt congratulations,” said UN Under-Secretary-General Cheick Sidi Diarra, High Representative for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing States and Small Island Developing States.
“We’re especially proud to be honored by United Nations Correspondents Association, with their depth of experience and knowledge of a broad range of media organizations and reporting styles,” says Kevin Huyge, MediaGlobal News’ Managing Editor. “As the only independent news organization based in the United Nations focused exclusively on development issues in the Global South, we’re pleased that our work is being recognized by our peers.”
MediaGlobal News (http://www.mediaglobal.org) was founded in 2006 by Nosh Nalavala to create awareness in the global media of the suffering of the world’s poorest countries on issues of economic development, global health, food security and the impact of climate change on developing nations.
“Our correspondents highlight interrelated issues such as climate change and food security in the world’s most vulnerable countries,” said Mr. Nalavala. “Recognition by UNCA and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation is great validation of our policy of reporting exclusively on the constraints of developing countries using first-hand, original reporting.”
